Semester -4Medicinal Pharmaceutical chemistry -I (BP402T)Unit-1Lecture-1Introduction to Medicinal Chemistry

introduction to Medicinal chemistry
In medicinal chemistry

The chemist attempt to design and Synthesized a medicine or pharmaceutical agent which will benefit humanity. Such a compound known as Drug

It involves:

  1. Synthesis

  2. Structure activity relationship (SAR)

  3. Receptor interactions- Absorption

        Distribution

        Metabolism

        Excretion

According to IUPAC:

Medicinal chemistry it concern  discovery, development, Identification , Interpretation Of mode of action of biological active compounds at the molecular level

Medicinal chemistry covers three stages

  1. Discovery step-

Involving choice of therapeutic Target (receptor, enzyme and target group, cellular invivo model).Identification or discovery. Production of new active substances interacting with selected target. Such compounds called Lead compound

    2. An optimization step-

Which deals with improvement of lead compound. The optimization process takes primarily into account the increase in potency, selectivity and toxicity.

  1. Development stage-

Whose purpose is continuation of improvement of pharmacokinetics properties
